Children learn
through their play. Play helps the child to develop socially, emotionally,
physically and cognitively. Activities in the preschool curriculum
include:
COGNITIVE
LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Working with materials that stress spatial awareness,
numbers, letters, shapes, colors, sorting, matching, classifying, sequencing and
problem solving.
LANGUAGE ARTS
ACTIVITIES
Books, conversation, stories, flannel board stories,
film strips, videos, puppets, games, creative dramatics, and time to share ideas
and follow directions.
CREATIVE
ACTIVITIES
Building blocks with cars, trucks, and animals.
Housekeeping play with dolls, dress-up clothes and kitchen equipment to
encourage role-playing. Creative art materials to make their own creations with
glue, play dough, crayons, collage, sand, water, paint, etc.
MUSIC
Songs, records, games, rhythms, instruments, creative
movement, and physical exercise.
SCIENCE
Objects to experiment with, to explore, to manipulate
and to observe.
SNACK AND
COOKING TIME
Time to socialize with others and to prepare and
taste a variety of foods and nutritious snacks.
LARGE MOTOR
ACTIVITIES
Indoor and outdoor exercise, large muscle equipment,
places to run and move, and a variety of games.
COMMUNITY
EXPERIENCES
Field trips to a variety of interesting places, and
visits from Community helpers - Firefighters, Letter Carriers, Police Officers,
etc.
